Has your website been stripped of its search ranking since Penguin 2.1?
A month ago on the 4th of October Google launched its latest update to the Penguin Algorithm. Its sole purpose is to identify and penalise poor-quality sites that deal in spammy content. Using duplicated copy, providing limited information or dubious links?
As a Website Designer for years I have told customers that they need to write their own content and it needs to be relevant to their customers, judging by some of the content I receive I would expect a lot more websites to be penalised both now and in the future as cut and paste seems ingrained in the average businesses work ethic.
The last 18-24 months has shown that there is, no short cuts when building a website and especially when trying to market it.
Google has shown that not only is it trying to improve its search engine for the end user it is also trying to clean up its mistakes and stop as many loopholes as possible. Here is a checklist if the answer to these questions is yes then I am afraid if you are going to have your work cut out;
- Does your website have original content?
- Do you hide extra content on your website?
- Have you stuffed your pages full of keywords?
- Have you paid for 1000’s of cheap links to your website?
- Do all your links go to the same page?
- Have all the links got exact match anchor text?
All of the above tells Google if you have been trying to manipulate the search rankings.
Over the last two years I have seen so many companies in denial and turning away from the truth, they have been caught out. Google will keep making changes to the algorithm as people try to manipulate the search algorithms, but contrary to popular opinion, you can correct a website that has been affect by the Panda and Penguin updates.
